When it comes to the holiday season, we often just do – often stuck in a pattern of old. If you feel inclined to, ask yourself:
- Is (insert what’s applicable in your life here) truly what you want and need? For example: do you really want to make gingerbread cookies? Do they bring you joy? Or are they just a “holiday must”, yet another box to tick? Another example: do you really need sleep? (Yes, yes I do.) Conclusion: perhaps more sleep and less cookie-making? 🙂
- For whom are you doing the things you are doing? Sometimes we think we are doing things for others when we are really acting upon what WE THINK they want – not necessarily what they actually want. And sometimes we are doing just that because that is the only way we know to calm ourselves: “When others are content, I can relax”. How exhausting! And never-ending!
- Can you give of your energy and time freely when you choose to do so? If not, that often builds stress and resentment.
- Can we choose to make space for the things that give us joy and/or rest, and let go of those that only bring us stress? Please mind my wording, I write that it is a choice to give yourself what you need and also to give to others – it is a choice, however, our way of acting might come from a place that is not yet conscious to us. Please be gentle with yourself <3
Also, please feel free to add to this list! What would be more useful reminders in holiday times?
